Opening Comments Week of April 13 - 17, 2020

All assignments, videos and reference materials will now be available on Google Classroom. Parents please reference the email sent out last Friday for detailed instructions on how to access Google Classroom.

Assignments are to be handed in this week to your teacher by the evening of Sunday, April 19:

Math

· Multiplication or Division? Using Clues to Help You Decide Which Operation to Use to solve picture and word problems.

Literacy

· Comprehension Questions for The One and Only Ivan read aloud

· Completed Graphic Organizer and written Personal Narrative about yourself

Learning Objectives for the week of April 13 - 17:

Math:

· I can use clues to help me decide how to solve a problem with either multiplication or division

Writing:

· I can organize my ideas using a graphic organizer

· I can write a personal narrative about myself that have a beginning, middle and end.

· I can use interesting and specific descriptive words to develop my ideas.

Reading:

· I can extend my vocabulary to include words that are used in other subject areas (for example: Animal Life Cycle vocabulary)

· I can comprehend new ideas and information by responding personally to text

Nonfiction Reading: 1. Log on to Google Classroom 2. Go to Nonfiction Reading Topic under “Classwork” tab 3. Click this week’s assignment 4. Listen to read aloud of “The Amazing Life Cycle of Butterflies” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPHMpSDChnI 5. Read Article titled “Animal Life Cycles” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRcPzzCPnf4 6. Explore Animal Life Cycle Word Bank in Google Classroom (Optional) Extension: 1. Choose 3 new words learned from the book, article or word bank and write a definition for them in the last slide of the presentation. 2. You each have your own copy. You can edit the presentation and put your answers right on it! Use a graphic organizer to organize your writing ideas. If you want, you can complete the writing on the google classroom document provided in the lesson. If you have trouble accessing, see .jpeg files below. Please send all 3 sheets (parts a, b, c) back to your teacher on Google Classroom by either creating a document, slide, photo or pdf. Alternatively, please send via email. (Optional) Extension: 1) Draw your own picture 2) Create a matching multiplication OR division word problem and equation. 3) Use may use as big a set of numbers as you are comfortable to use.
